If anyone had told me, even 12 months ago, that I would be head deep into organising a pagan festival, I would have laughed. But here I am, and here I be.
I was given part of Spirit Fest BC, a small pagan festival usually run in Fruitvale BC. Earlier this year, after a horrific fire that destroyed their store, the previous owners decided that it was impossible to deal with the repercussions of that, plus trying to make a festival work and cancelled the event.
Crow, a regular attendee, one time organiser, and the person who usually performs the main ritual, asked if I would help keep it alive. We took off running, and in 3.5 weeks managed to pull off an entire 5 day event.
Afterwards, the previous owners formally handed Spirit Fest to the board of Spirit Fest. A well earned break was needed!
So, where are we at now?
Well, I was approached about moving the entire festival to where I live. Though it was tempting, I believe that the community is big enough, and diverse enough, to support two separate events! Crow and I talked, and asked the others on the organising team. There was a lot of wrangling and thinking. No small amount of meditation and divination.
But here’s the thing – the community IS big enough to support more than one event between the Okanagon and Kootenays. So we’ve… not exactly split apart… we’ve expanded.
I’m taking the point on Triskelion Gathering – which will have workshops, rituals, and be more structured. Crow will continue to run Spirit Fest, which I believe is going to be less structured – but we’ll see what he comes up with! I promise to share when I know more!
So, as of today, we have a name and a site, and dates. This is going to be fun.
